Recent Research Results of Efficacy of Current Myopia Control Using Optical Approach

Abstract
Purpose : To review latest knowledge regarding myopia control using the optical interventions which can be managed in optometric practice in Korea.

Methods : Keyword "Myopia control" was used to search relevant researches. Among the searched data, the only researched results regarding Ortho-K, RGP lens, multifocal contact lens, Progressive addition lens, Peripheral myopic defocus lenses were included.

Results : From 2002 to 2011, 1,135 researches were found and 2,441 results were found during 2012 to 2021. Out of these searched data, main 67 researches were included for this review. Researches showed that Ortho-K had slower myopia progression by 44%, Multifocal contact lenses by 43%, PAL 18%, and peripheral myopic defocus lenses by 59% respectively.

Conclusion : With advance in optical design, optometric practitioners in Korea have more options to recommend for myopia control. Therefore, optometric practitioners need more active role not only for myopia correction, but also myopia management in long term.
